Interest was keen and resulted in a second session being arranged, with the audience showing a particular interest in the tanker market. One area of focus for tankers was whether or not OPEC’s announcements of production increases would actually materialize. In Marsoft’s view, the price of oil would have to drop significantly to absorb the full scope of the announced increase, given the slow growth in oil consumption in 2025.
Discussion in the dry bulk market focused on the credibility of the rapid Simandou production and export ramp-up and which exporters could potentially be displaced. If we can assume that African ore substitutes for Indian exports, we believe Simandou is likely to contribute significantly to tonne-mile demand growth.
