Version 3.x of Marsoft's Shipping Credit Manager (SCM) was implemented using Microsoft Visual Basic 5 and Seagate Crystal Reports Version 6, and is officially supported with Excel 97 (SR2 or above) and Excel 2000 (Excel 2002/XP was unofficially supported).   Version 4.x, initially released in the first quarter of 2003 (03Q1), represents an upgrade to Visual Basic 6 and Crystal Reports 8.5, and is officially supported with Excel 97 (SR2 or above), Excel 2000, and Excel 2002 (Excel XP). Both versions of SCM run on Windows 9x/NT 4.0 (SP6 or better)/2000/XP (Windows Me is not supported).

SCM 4.x Installation
The SCM 4.x installation procedure is similar to that of SCM 3.x, but has been streamlined in a few areas and simplified in others.  There are also more install options, to allow clients to obtain the latest Market Data Scenario files only, if desired. The four (4) main install options for each quarter are:

  1. First Time Install
  2. Quarterly Update Install with software fixes/enhancements AND Market Data Files
  3. Quarterly Update Install with Market Data Files ONLY
  4. Program Group/Icon Install (for network installations only)

FIRST TIME INSTALL:  as the name implies, this install option is designed for use on systems (standalone PCs or shared network drives) where SCM has not been previously installed.  This option will install the full manifest of SCM files and support libraries (DLL's), along with a blank database (no vessel/loan definitions).  Even though this option represents a first time install, nonetheless, SCM 4.x can be installed on systems where SCM 3.x has already been installed, either in an entirely new directory, or over the existing SCM 3.x structure.  If you choose this latter option, you will be prompted to make a backup copy of your existing database. You will then need to edit your SCMUSER.INI file to point to your old 3.x database. Call Marsoft for details.

QUARTERLY UPDATE INSTALL WITH SOFTWARE FIXES/ENHANCEMENTS:  designed to be used on systems where SCM 4.x has already been installed, and you want do do a quarterly update install, and you want the install to include both new software enhancements and new quarterly-updated market data files (used for forecasting within SCM).

QUARTERLY UPDATE INSTALL - MARKET: DATA FILES ONLY designed for users who have already installed SCM 4.x and only wish to obtain the latest quarterly-updated SCM market data files (used for forecasting within SCM). No software is installed when this install option is selected -- only data files are installed.

PROGRAM GROUP/ICON INSTALL this option should be used for shared network drive SCM installations; i.e., where a site requires more than one user to have access to SCM. Choose this option after installing SCM 4.x on a shared network drive using the First Time Install option (see above). After performing a First Time Install to a shared network drive using one PC, go to every other PC requiring SCM access and install SCM 4.x using this option (Program Group/Icon install option). Multiple PC's (users) will then have access to the same SCM and SCM database installation.
